Hand crafted from bronze this PAIR of Bronze Japanese Bookends will make for a striking display piece on your bookshelf. Small in size these finely crafted bronze bookends depict a man and woman in traditional Japanese garb with arms outstretched, ready to help hold your books in place. They were finished in a multi stage, time consuming process requiring skilled and experienced artisans. The pieces were marked by the foundry and this mark can be seen in the pictures for this listing. The rich shades of brown lend themselves to almost any decor, they appear especially striking when displayed in a well lit area.
The PAIR of Bronze Japanese Bookends have been created using the “lost wax” casting method in which bronze pieces are cast and then brazed together to create a single statue with hand chasing details throughout. The figures are held to the base using a machine screw which is hidden from view. The age of these pieces is uncertain but likely predates the second world war.
